Found an article in Mens Health's October issue on Craig Fitzgerald, strength and conditioning coach at Penn State. The following are quotes and training tips from him:
1. Work out on your feet. "Machines don't strengthen smaller muscles, ligaments and tendons. Training on your feet makes you functionally fit so you'll do more than sit and push weight."
2. Focus on a few main exercises such as the bench, squat and deadlift. Everything else is interchangeable.
3. Be consistent. "Making it the the gym several times a week is more important than how much weight you lift."
4. "Are you a guy who dreads his workout, or are you making a plan at 4 P.M. so you can hit it hard after work? Some guys feel they have to work out; others want to work out."
"Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last!"

Here is a picture showing the sugar contained in some of the food we eat. We always hear that reading food nutrition labels is important. It hopefully makes us aware of what we are fueling our body's with. But, when it is laid out in this fashion, it is a real eye opener. Makes me thirsty for a 7-11 Big Gulp.
"The only thing between you and a life of abundance in every area of life is your mind."Tom Cronin
"The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison."
Ann Wigmore
"In order to achieve true success, you have to integrate your fitness, nutrition, health, relatinships and career. Most people only want to focus on one of these, but you have to be strong in all five." #Chris Carmichael
I don't know how many times it needs to be said, but I will repeat it. There is no such thing as a magic weight loss pill. What's the rave this week? Bee pollen, green coffee bean pills, all those over the counter diet pills, etc...? The rave may work for a minute, then what? That minute is up, the pills run out or you encounter a side effect. Guess what happens next? The weight comes back and it comes back with friends.
Do yourself a favor and get proper information. You will find the truth about all those quick fixes and what is wrong with them. The quickest and most guaranteed fix is hard work through exercise and making proper lifestyle changes. Better yourself the right and healthy way. The only side effect is the body and mindset you want or were made to have. Period!

Sitting here at my daughter's brazilian jiu jitsu class, I began wondering how many parents are being good examples for their kids. Out of the 10 parents here, two of us actually participate in bjj. Why is that? We all work hard to earn money to pay for certain activities we want our children to participate in or activities they want to do. Life is unpredictable for your children and yourself. These kids get bullied and they have a skill they can fall back on. How about these parents? Certain times in life you may not be able to walk away. Taking action might be the only choice. Be a good example. Show the importance of learning to defend yourself. It is a great way to bond with your child and, not to mention, a great workout.
