Above is a link to an article I found on personal change by Deepak Chopra.  Changing who you are and how you react to instances in your life are two goals many people have, but are unable to accomplish.  The article above gives ideas and strategies to accomplish personal change.

QUOTE OF THE DAY!!

"You become what you think about all day long and those days eventually become your LIFETIME!"

THE COST OF NOT FIGHTING BACK!!

I love finding great article.  I am an advocate for learning self defense.  You have to be crazy not to have something to fall back on if THE SHIT HITS THE FAN and YOU HAVE TO DEFEND YOURSELF OR, GOD FORBID, YOUR FAMILY.  Tony Blauer is one of the best and hit self defense program is probably one of the best around.  I personally hope to one day attend and train with him.  His article on personal defense is straight forward and that's the way it needs to be when your life or that of your family is at stake!  You can find more information on his programs at tonyblauerblog.com and of course youtube videos.

Life After the Academy: Remember Why You Workout | Breaking Muscle

Life After the Academy: Remember Why You Workout | Breaking Muscle

The above article/link is directed to law enforcement, but any individual with a busy life can get something out of it.  Taking care of yourself and being prepared for the unexpected is key when setting up a workout.  Don't put taking care of yourself physically and mentally on the back burner.  Put it up front with everything else you feel is important.  Always remember, those things you feel that are so much more important than exercising and better yourself will not be important if you are not around for them.

FUNNY SHIT!!

TODAY'S TO DO LIST!!

MORE THAN THE QUOTE OF THE DAY!!

Found an article in Mens Health's October issue on Craig Fitzgerald, strength and conditioning coach at Penn State.   The following are quotes and training tips from him:

1.  Work out on your feet.  "Machines don't strengthen smaller muscles, ligaments and tendons.  Training on your feet makes you functionally fit so you'll do more than sit and push weight."
2.  Focus on a few main exercises such as the bench, squat and deadlift.  Everything else is interchangeable.
3.  Be consistent.   "Making it the the gym several times a week is more important than how much weight you lift."
4.  "Are you a guy who dreads his workout, or are you making a plan at 4 P.M. so you can hit it hard after work?  Some guys feel they have to work out; others want to work out."

QUOTE OF THE DAY!!

"Create the kind of self you will be happy to live with all your life."

Foster McClellan

SUGAR REALITY!!

Here is a picture showing the sugar contained in some of the food we eat.  We always hear that reading food nutrition labels is important.  It hopefully makes us aware of what we are fueling our body's with.  But, when it is laid out in this fashion, it is a real eye opener.  Makes me thirsty for a 7-11 Big Gulp.

QUOTE OF THE DAY!

"Men often become what they believe themselves to be.  If I believe I can not do something, it makes me incapable of doing it.  But, when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability."

MOBILITY VS. FLEXIBILITY

To be mobile and flexible are two components of fitness that are greatly underestimated.  Below is an article from Mensfitness.com that explains the importance of both and how to achieve them.  Above is a video explaining a great way to release body tension using a foam roller.  Foam rolling is by far the #1 way to prepare yourself for any type of training.  And it can be done when you have down time or watching TV.  Try it out.

PREVENTING DIABETES!!

Diabetes is a growing problem in today's world.  What was once considered an old person's chronic issue is now running wild at all ages.  Below is an article I found in Men's Health on the topic of diabetic prevention.  Remember, you can control what you do with your body and what foods you put in it.

SUCCEED AT WEIGHT LOSS!!

Hey everyone!
Below is an article based on incorporating cheat meals into your healthy eating.  Planning a cheat meal or cheat day into your schedule is a sure fire way to stay on track when it comes to weight loss or managing your weight.
Diets are just a temporary solution to a larger problem.  When a weight loss goal is reached throught dieting, people will consider their diet completed.  And what comes next is indulging in the foods they deprived themselves of.  That is where diets fail you.  A majority of diets call for restrictions of a food group (fats, carbs or sugars, animal protein)or types of food (your favorite junk foods, pizza, hot dogs, burgers, etc...).  Start with small healthy lifestyle changes and once you've adjusted follow the types in the article below.
Good Luck!

DON'T JUST PUT TIME IN AT WORK, PUT TIME INTO WORKING OUT!!

For all those who seem to not have time to physically and mentally better themselves.  Don't just work, WORKOUT!  Great article from Menshealth.com that I have shared with lots of people.
If you are unable to open the link, please try searching for the web page.  Sorry for any issues you may encounter.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"In order to achieve true success, you have to integrate your fitness, nutrition, health, relatinships and career.  Most people only want to focus on one of these, but you have to be strong in all five."                #Chris Carmichael

THE MAGIC WEIGHT LOSS PILL

I don't know how many times it needs to be said, but I will repeat it.  There is no such thing as a magic weight loss pill.  What's the rave this week?  Bee pollen, green coffee bean pills, all those over the counter diet pills, etc...?  The rave may work for a minute, then what?  That minute is up, the pills run out or you encounter a side effect.  Guess what happens next?  The weight comes back and it comes back with friends.
Do yourself a favor and get proper information.  You will find the truth about all those quick fixes and what is wrong with them.  The quickest and most guaranteed fix is hard work through exercise and making proper lifestyle changes.  Better yourself the right and healthy way.  The only side effect is the body and mindset you want or were made to have.  Period!

QUOTE OF THE DAY!

"Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending."
Carl Bard

PARENTS NEED TO BE GREAT EXAMPLES!!

Sitting here at my daughter's brazilian jiu jitsu class, I began wondering how many parents are being good examples for their kids.  Out of the 10 parents here, two of us actually participate in bjj.  Why is that?  We all work hard to earn money to pay for certain activities we want our children to participate in or activities they want to do.  Life is unpredictable for your children and yourself.  These kids get bullied and they have a skill they can fall back on.  How about these parents?  Certain times in life you may not be able to walk away.  Taking action might be the only choice.  Be a good example.  Show the importance of learning to defend yourself.  It is a great way to bond with your child and, not to mention, a great workout.

WARMUP ADVICE! ! DO IT!!!!

Above is a great link to an awesome trainer/coach, Jason Ferruggia.  He talks about proper warm-up for the body.  If you're no warming up then you're doing your body a major disservice.  GET SOME!!!

CAN YOU MOVE YOUR WEIGHT?

I have heard people say they are "comfortable" at their weight, but then they are huffing and puffing doing anything and everything.  WHAT THE FUCK!!  Let's keep it real.  The only time you are comfortable is when you are not moving.  Step it up.   Here is your challenge for tomorrow:  perform 100 burpees (I like to call them squat thrusts) and time how long it takes.  Great way to start the day.  I am.  Post your times below.  If you have no clue what a burpee is, you tube it.  Next time I will set up an example for you using youtube.

FOLLOWING MY DREAM!!!

WELCOME EVERYONE!!!!!
This is offically my first blog post and I am very excited.  My name is Gregory Quintero and I have recently received my personal training certification.  It has been a long time coming.  One of those things that I had been constantly putting off for NO REASON.  Well, I do have a family and that could be part of the reason.  They come first and they are behind me 100% in everything that I do.
I have been slowly putting together a personal training business and have been motivated the whole time.  Knowing that I will be helping others achieve their goals, no matter what they may be, has been a great drive for me.  Life is short and so many out there keep living a half-assed life becuase they are being held back. Held back by things they have control over. You have control over what you stuff in your mouth, over how you move and over how you think. I want to help in every way possible. More to come.
